Maggie was born in Hong Kong and emigrated with her family to England at the age of eight. She once worked as a cashier in a London bookstore.

Upon completing her secondary school education, she returned to Hong Kong and first worked as a model for a clothing store in Hong Kong. The next year, at the age of 19, she nearly missed the title of 1983's Miss Hong Kong.

Then she started her career in movie and TV industry. Maggie is a super-talented actress with many big hits. She won HK's top actress award in 1990. Her depiction of a 1930s Shanghai movie star Ruan Linyu, won her the best actress award in 1992 Berlin Film Festival.

Maggie is continuing her earlier career as a model. Above is her modeling for Hermes on the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week in March of 1998.
